If you want to make a difference in the world but are not sure how to go about with it, you are in the right place. For I was in that same dilemma not long ago and racked my brain for a long time. I wondered what my purpose and calling was. It was so confusing, and it seems like a puzzle on its own. I started from the basics and jotted down all the things I loved, and that was the key to discovering it all.
I knew that I always loved to write and I feel connected to people very differently through writing. There is something about words that uncannily appeals to me. That’s what made me realise the reason for it is because it was the only place where I felt the presence of God the most. I realised that he communicates to me through the medium of writing, and I started meeting him there more often.
So if God had a job, what do you think he would do?
I always say that if God had to pay bills and had a job, he would be a writer. I believe that the big guy up in the sky who holds the remote control of my life would be a writer.
Why do I think God would be a writer.
I think if God had a job, he would be a writer or an author because that how he shows up to me. When I read my books as a child, I always felt a presence. This presence, through the writer/author, would hold my hand and lead the way for me. I felt safe, cosy and loved in that serenity.
What did I learn from this presence?
Free will
I felt I had a free will. As I was led on an adventure by this presence, I realised that he was not forcing me, but it was a gentle invitation. It made me feel heaven here on earth, and I would be stupid not to grab the opportunity.
We are our inner sovereign. We have a choice
His presence made me realise what it was to be like different characters. I felt I could be Cinderella, her stepsisters, stepmother, fairy Godmother, father, or the Prince. I was allowed to play whatever role I wanted and felt it was up to me to decide what character I wanted to play in life.
Love as the important ingredient of life
I learned not to judge, blame or look down upon anyone, and I realised through reading that all the characters and people he created were the same. All were good. Some had shades of grey, but there was more to it, and it was up to me to find the good in them.
Life as our greatest gift
Through the presence, I realised that our greatest gift is Life and we are to make the best of it. I learnt that we have the opportunity to change, make amends, to rectify every day until our very last day. So we must not live with regrets, hurt and fear and lies.
A chance to grow daily
Though the writings I learnt that life was not a joy ride but a journey of evolution where we would evolve in our different phases of life. I saw that life would have its ups and downs. I learned not to get giddy with the highs nor despair the lows and accept life with all that it has to offer.
Evolve and Resurrect our new self
I learnt that life is all about transforming our old selves, our beast and frog selves and turning to Prince. Not only did I know that I had hidden powers within, but I also knew that I had to find my very own fairy Godmother in myself, my magic wands and potions. I learn that nothing is constant, and there is something to learn and discover about our selves as every juncture. I knew the day we stop learning is the day we stop living.
Self Forgiveness
The divine presence thought me not to be hard on myself if I make mistakes because we always have the opportunity to correct them just like the characters do. The only thing I need to do is own up and be honest with ourselves.
Love, Faith and Hope
I learnt about hope, faith and love an understood that those three were the only most important things we need in life. To have hope that things will get better and not to despair no matter how bad things get.
To have faith that things will get better and that we always have this presence around with us when we fall, are lonely or need a guide.
That love was the most important thing in life and without it life would have not meaning.
So what job do you think God would do?
So I ask you if God was one of us and had to work for a living, what would he do? Do you think he would do a corporate job, or would he be an entertainer? Or would he be a writer like I believe? How does God show up to you in your life? Where do you find the presence of his being? Do you think he comes to you in the form of an artist, singer, engineer, dancer or teacher? Through what do you find him offering you love, hope, self-forgiveness, and faith?
How does he speak to you? What do you think would be his job role? He comes to me in the form of a writer, but how does he come to you?
Conclude: How do you find your true purpose?
I believe that answering that single question led me to understand my purpose. God is love, and he comes to you through the things you love the most. He is everywhere and will speak to you in any way you want to. I believed every word in the books I read. And stories spoke to me in ways nothing else did and influenced me the most as a human being. What influences you the most? Will you open your heart to hear that voice? I believe that is the key to finding your true purpose.
